Contrary to what it may seem, cleaning an electric griddle is quite easy. You just need to know the right techniques and tips to make your cooking appliance shine after each use. And if you forget to do it right after your barbecue session, don't worry: we'll also explain how to clean an appliance that has cooled down. Let's take a look at how to clean your griddle with a stainless steel plate:
The key steps for cleaning your stainless steel griddle
Your stainless steel griddle can be cleaned hot or cold. If you have the time or want to switch from savory to sweet, you can do it while your steel griddle is hot, right after you've finished your last grilling. In this case, you can pour water or ice cubes onto the still-hot cooking surface, with a maximum temperature of 250°. This step is called deglazing. The thermal shock produced allows grease to be easily removed.
For the second step, scrape off the grease with your dedicated spatula. Then pour the grease into your grease collection tray. To finish this hot cleaning, use an abrasive pad to easily remove the last residue. You can also wipe with a sponge, paper towel, or absorbent paper.
If you let your appliance cool completely before cleaning it, no worries: you can clean your plancha using the same method. Simply heat your electric plancha again for a few minutes. You can then proceed with cleaning as in the hot method. To clean a cold stainless steel plancha, we also recommend white vinegar, which does not necessarily require a hot plate.
The chef's tip for properly cleaning a griddle and neutralizing tastes and odors: white vinegar
To clean your griddle and especially neutralize any lingering tastes and odors, there's one essential product: white vinegar. This solution is effective, environmentally friendly, and economical. While white vinegar is a great ally for maintaining a dirty stainless steel griddle, you can use it especially for quickly cleaning the cooking plate if you want to switch from fish to meat or from savory to sweet dishes.
Hot Cleaning
To clean your stainless steel griddle while hot, cover the griddle with white vinegar. You can then scrape it with your cleaning spatula and remove the residue through your grease collector. Finally, wipe your stainless steel griddle with a cloth soaked in white vinegar.
Cold Cleaning
For easy cold cleaning, mix equal parts water and vinegar in a container. Pour this mixture onto your griddle and let it sit for one or two hours. All you have to do is rinse your griddle with water, gently scrape it with your spatula if necessary, then dry and rub it with a cloth.
Special utensils and products to make cleaning your electric griddle easier
To clean and maintain your professional griddle, we offer a wide range of utensils and products. They will help you preserve your cooking tool over time.
So, in addition to the essential spatula, you can use abrasive pads. They have been specially designed for cleaning greasy stainless steel surfaces. To help you, you can also invest in a handle for an abrasive pad, or even a special griddle cleaner.
Degreaser for stainless steel griddles: clean your equipment with the right products
Didn't have time to clean your griddle while it was still hot? Don't worry. Maintaining the cooking plate of a stainless steel electric griddle is easy, even when it's cold. To do this, Planchaelec recommends using Marfeu professional degreaser for planchas and ovens.
Cleaning stainless steel griddles is simple. Spray Marfeu degreaser onto your griddle plate. Let it sit for about 20 minutes before removing any grease residue. All you have to do is rinse the cooking surface with clean water. Dry the plate with a cloth if necessary.
Cleaning spatula for stainless steel griddles: use the right utensils
A spatula scraperis essential for cleaning a stainless steel griddle. Its use is ideal for both hot and cold cleaning. With a spatula, you can easily remove residue and push it into the grease collection tray. At Planchaelec, the scraper spatula is included in the "cleaning accessories" pack.
If grease residue remains on the cooking plate of your stainless steel griddle, you can use an abrasive pad. Using a pad handle will make cleaning easier. Made of solid stainless steel and therefore uncoated, you can scrape the plate of your appliance without fear of damaging it.
Some tips for maintaining your griddle for the long term
A stainless steel griddle requires little maintenance. Cleaning it is therefore the best thing you can do. We therefore recommend cleaning your griddle after each use, preferably with a hot surface, or with white vinegar when cold. Also consider getting a protective cover to protect it from one season to the next.
And if your cooking surface has scratches, don't worry. Our PLANCHAELEC stainless steel electric planchas are designed for this. Over time, the cooking quality will even improve, as the cooking surface will develop a patina.
Winterizing your stainless steel cooking appliance: properly protecting your equipment
During the winter, we recommend storing your plancha away from humidity, weather hazards (leaves, rain, etc.), and insects. Also remember to protect your electric plancha during the winter. Depending on your model, simply use its protective cover after closing the cooking lid. If you don't have a protective cover for your plancha, if possible, store it in a garage for the winter rather than under an awning.
